Gwen Widmer is an artist who works with image and text in several media that include photography, digital imaging, collage, drawing, artists' books and video. Since the mid-1970s her work has been exhibited at The New Museum in New York City, Camerawork in San Francisco and numerous other museums, art centers and galleries. She has received two National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships in Photography, and her work has been published and reviewed in art journals, exhibition catalogs and books on photography. Gwen Widmer also collaborates with Patrick Clancy in performance, video and new media artworks. She has taught at Kansas City Art Institute, University of New Mexico, School of the Art Institute of Chicago and other colleges and universities. Gwen Widmer currently lives in Kansas City, Missouri where she is adjunct co-curator of Electromediascope, an international survey of contemporary experimental work in independent film, video and new media at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.
